23 April 2018
World Book and Copyright Day is a worldwide celebration! It is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and of reading.
Each year, this important day reminds us of the magical power of books. They represent a link between generations and across cultures and open windows on the diversity of cultures.
23 April is a symbolic date on which prominent authors as William Shakespeare, Miguel Cervantes and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega all died. This date was chosen by UNESCO's General Conference in 1995 to pay tribute to books and authors around the world.
The UNESCO Associated Schools are invited to mark the day by engaging their students and teachers in activities to share the passion of reading present their favorite books and raise awareness about reading as a fundamental right.
