This year, the celebration marks the 25th anniversary of the declaration of 17 October as the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, and the 30th anniversary of the Call to Action by Father Joseph Wresinski who said: Wherever men and women are condemned to live in extreme poverty, human rights are violated.  He originally inspired the observance of October 17!

Discover the work of UNESCO's partner NGO ATD Fourth World, funded by Joseph Wresinski and sign an online call to action to refuse poverty that causes humiliation and ostracism of people in precarious situations.

ATD Fourth World developed many useful educational resources in multiple languages, available on the "TAPORI" website here.

Additional tools for Children Joining the Campaign are here, and proposals for young people are available on "Youth Rise Up", including a Teachers' Guide on Stories of Change for primary and secondary schools.
